The borough is roughly 45 km south-west of London and has some 82,000 residents.
It is scenically located in the very north-east of Hampshire close to Windsor Castle, covers an area of about 36 square kilometres and consists of two towns: Aldershot and Farnborough.
History of Rushmoor
In the early Middle Ages, during the rule of the Anglo-Saxons, several small hamlets, including Aldershot and Farnborough, were scattered in the lonely moorlands of what we know today as Rushmoor.
It was not until the 19th century, until the arrival of a train line to London and extensive military installations, that these remote villages finally grew in size.
Until 1861 the population of Aldershot and Farnborough sharply increased to 22,000.
Rushmoor today is characterised by extensive residential areas, high-tech companies and large and beautiful parks and gardens - and, of course, the close vicinity of the capital of the United Kingdom.
